Year 2008 is coming to an end.. and how do I spend the last few hours of this dramatic & chaotic year?

I have just finished watching "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" with my family (a movie) in the living room while wearing our 3D glasses. Don't laugh, the movie's supposed to have 3D effects, so my dad bought the blu-ray dvd and it comes with the glasses.. I actually took a picture of my parents wearing the 3D glasses and posing for me! haha.. but too bad, i m not gonna pose it here, family joke..

Stan and I made fruit tarts for our families today. We bought everything on Monday, but only made it today to retain the freshness of the tarts! haha.. oops, forgot to take pic.. but it's really nice.. haha.. we had grapes, pineapples and bananas! it was a hectic day for his family.. we all became helpers, transporting the food to and fro, having our share of laughter throughout the journey.. it was fun..

The yishun family is probably having their own mj session as a form of party right now, I din join them today so as to spend time with my family.. haha.. My small family of 4 had steamboat.. With extra dishes from Ah Po, yummy! =)

School's gonna start next week.. another 14 weeks of grilling, mugging, stoning, slacking.. my last semester! time just zooms past when you are in uni..

before I forget, 04S15 had our first class gathering in months yesterday, 30th Dec 2008. all thanks to Rahul, our Star student! He just came back from the States for a holiday and he is gonna fly back on the 7th. We are all so proud of him, being the Top Student in his uni! And mind you, he's studying Actuarial Science! Wei Jun, our pilot-to-be, managed to join us too.. it was really fun catching up with all of them, hearing them talk about their experiences..

I am so glad I came to 04S15.. The one class that will stay together, always.. And I am so bloody proud of my classmates!! We are all leading different lives now, but I know that we will all have a bright future someday! Someday, we will gather again, all of us successful in our own careers! =)

Happy New Year, my friends! take care and i hope to see you guys soon! =)

to quote someone, "if you dun care about that someone, you won't flare up at him"

in the drama serial, she deliberately do the wrong things to seek her husband's attention and then she would feel very guilty afterwards. that's exactly how i feel.

sigh.. we aren't happy.. anymore.. forever..

merry christmas to all

hi all!

first things first, just wanna promote my own blogshop and lj (haha!)

We are selling many pretty stuff that are hardly seen on other blogshops and lj, all of which are very good quality. well, i m sure you guys know me, i m such a perfectionist, if the quality isn't good, i won't get stock at all! haha..

so be sure to check out my new livejournal k?

i designed the picture myself.. tell me what you guys think k?

these few days (or 7 days to be exact), i m simply too bored.. so i watch Saw V all alone in my room. haha.. the show's so short! i haven got enough of the gore and blood! haha.. i can't wait for Saw VI! whoo!

i know, you are thinking that i m so disgusting, some guys dun even watch Saw V! lolx.. is this the first time you are reading my blog? i m not the kind of girls that squeal at the main characters in Twilight (i still dun see the appeal of Twilight, sorry to say) or go gaga when they see Chihuahua.. i like bimbotic shows too, but cute dogs? oh my, dogs and cats are the least cute creatures in this world! -pukes-

back to Saw V, i dunno how many of you have watched it.. the storyline is kinda repetitive where ppl who do not know how to cherish their lives will be dealt with severely.. the last few movies of the sequel is always featuring people in a Game of Death and it's so real to see what people are willing to just to save their own lives..

as usual, the ending of Saw never fails to leave an impact on me. this time, it's so much more genius than before! the guy is so smart to mislead the other person.. haha.. watch it yourself to find out what i mean!

For those attached, have you ever wondered about this question?
For the singles, have you imagined it?

"The Choice" by Nicholas Sparks has forced me to think about this question. A definite page-turner, i couldn't help but read through the last 80 pages in one sitting! haha...

It all started with these two neighbours and they spent a weekend together, riding a motorcycle down the streets, parasailing (parachuting pulled by a sailboat) and walking their dogs together. it only took them 3 days to fall deeply in love and realised they were destined to be soulmates for life.

This story spanned over eleven years, from 1996 to 2007. The female lead character, Gabby, was initially attached to a guy. The story in 1996 ended with the line "she knew what to do".

Part Two of the story started in June 2007: Gabby eventually married Travis (the male lead, aka her neighbour) and they had 2 daughters, in 1st and 3rd grade. Sparks had a way of making his readers guess what exactly happened to Gabby, with his misleading yet true words..

At first, I thought that Gabby had divorced Travis but all this seemed so impossible for they were so deeply in love and they complemented each other in every way. Only then did Sparks revealed, bit by bit, that Gabby is in a coma.

Travis and Gabby got into an accident when Travis was speeding on a rainy night, in a bid to rush home earlier so that they could sleep more and wake up fresh to prepare for work the next morning. But Gabby never woke up the next morning anymore.....

Travis woke up with a mangled arm in bandage and his wife was in a coma. Somehow, Gabby seemed to have known that she would go into a coma because she once told Travis that if she were in a coma, she wants Travis to remove the feeding tubes from her after 3 months. She didn't want Travis and the girls (her daughters) to suffer because of her. She stated this explicitly in her living will.

3 months came and went by. It was time for Travis to decide if he was going to show Gabby's living will to the doctors, allow them to remove the feeding tubes and see Gabby slowly starve to death. This was THE CHOICE. If you were Travis, what would you do?

At this time, i paused and thought in his shoes. If i was the one lying there, i would want to end my own life and shorten the misery for all. If i was Travis, I would not show the living will and hang on to the glimmer of hope that Gabby may wake up one day. I cannot imagine life without my loved ones. it's all too painful to take in.

Well, Travis made the same decision as I. Gabby had to be moved to a nursing home because the hospital's running out of space and coma patients who did not wake up by 3 months had to be shifted to a nursing home.

Months went by and Travis tried to lead a normal life, returning to his veterinarian job. Until one day, he received an urgent call from the nursing home. Sparks only mentioned the owner of the home said two words and asked Travis to rush down to the home.

Until here, you must be wondering what exactly are the "Two Words". Many words raced through my mind. If you really want to know, read the book! haha.. it will tell you the answer..

Sparks has a way of keeping you reading till the end. In every book, I seek a lesson to be learnt from the story. The book only gave me closure when I saw the two words. The climax of the story comes towards the end, bringing you much anticipation and excitement.

Lesson learnt: love is not to be taken for granted. It's only during the crucial times that you can see how strong your love for him/her is. Faced with the toughest decision, we simply have to follow our heart.

I hope you will enjoy this story as much I did.

To stan: I love you

call me a bitch
call me an idiot
call me whatever you want, i dun care

it's up till now that i realised some friends aren't worth making at all.. you can lead a better life without them.. it's just irritating to try to keep up with their nonsense and bullshit.. some friends, you say they are your good friends, but both of you dun make an effort to meet up, are you still good friends?

some people think that they themselves are the best in the world and that everyone should follow in their footsteps, suck up to them, make them feel good. i have friends like these. i used to call them my friends, now they are just acquaintances, whom i rather not know exist.

it's disappointing, isn't it? after years of friendship, you thought you finally found someone whom you can call your close friend (he/she shall not be named here) and then the friendship just sours off. that's the end, fullstop.

but it's better this way. at least you realise it early and stop putting in effort into the friendship that is not worth your maintenance at all.

stan went to taiwan with his family of 16 yesterday. before he left, he told me some things which i have pondered over for the past 2 days. he's right. i ought to change. i will try.
putting this friends issue aside, my brother just came back from Shanghai Overseas CIP. haha.. he bought stuff for all of us, which was really nice of him.. my parents were so anxious, my dad stepped on the accelerator all the way to Changi!! haha..

we went Sakae Sushi for dinner at Parkway Parade and my brother ate like he has never eaten for 2 weeks! haha.. before we could tell the waitress our order of 3 chawanmushi and 3 green tea, 1 hot water, my brother has already laid out 6 plates in front of him!! haha..

if you are still concerned about my dilemma, it has been solved. haha.. i m officially joining PricewaterhouseCoopers' tax department. whoo! my own table~ =)

after joining Justina and Leonard for steamboat yesterday at Bugis, i finally knew that not all shortlisted candidates get the job! haha.. i thought everyone who gets shortlisted will get the job.. Nard says it's only a 60% acceptance rate.. ooh.. goes to show that i aren't that lousy after all..

lastly, just wanna share with the girls that my blogshop at www.bring-it-home.blogspot.com has officially updated with Collection 2: The Comfy & Smart!

Here's a preview:

who says life is always smooth sailing?

just when you thought that life is getting perfect, some things just have to pop up and ruin your whole day.. sucks eh?

i m sure everyone comes across these kinda problems, the only solution to this is to find a solution to overcome your misunderstandings, hiccups and move back onto the perfect life.

i went for the PwC tea session today to collect my contract and drink two glasses of white wine. not too bad.. but i din get a chance to sit down at all.. my blazer's in my bag and it weighs a ton. my shoulder's aching badly now and the heels have just successfully created two blisters on my soles. thanks eh, my beloved white heels?

now i m feeling so miserable.. damn.. i din have dinner tonight (not that i m hungry). so it's probably the only silver lining in the dark clouds, i can slim down! haha..

tml i m supposed to go city plaza. god knows what will happen now. i will just go on my own i guess.

good night everyone

i am here to write about the service in Singapore.. really sucks, in my opinion

Stan and I went to Takashimaya's Pepper Lunch with my parents yesterday. I was already famished when I got there and the crowd was overwhelming. While my parents did the ordering, stan and i stood at one side. Then suddenly i heard "Mdm, excuse me, sorry" I was already standing so close to the edge and the waiter (named A) still had to squeeze past me with a granny tagging behind. I presume the granny is Japanese because she started ranting off Jap to her husband.

My point being, why does the waiter have to squeeze in between me and the edge when he could have just went behind me?? No manners at all. Then we were seated. I noticed that they are definitely overstaffed. Many of the waiters & waitresses were standing around, simply doing nothing! They just stood around the counter, take up much space, chat with each other in their broken Singlish and laugh! C'mon, I am sure Pepper Lunch didn't hire you guys to chit chat, share a joke and crack up at the slightest bit!

I am absolutely peeved and furious! When our food arrived, I was all ready to tuck in and start cooking my steak. To my horror, a waiter (named B) came by. The first thing that came out of his unshaven mouth was to my dad "You have to flip this meat over". Then he changed his attention to Stan and said the same thing too.

Lastly, B reached me and asked me to flip my steak over. I was staring at himthroughout and could no longer contain my anger. So I raised my hand, showed him my palm and said "Thank you" in a "thanks, but no thanks, i definitely don't need you to show me how to eat" manner.

He was stunned for a moment before he went away. My mom noticed that B went to tell another waiter (for your info, he talked to A) about me. My mom said that I was a tad too rude. In my opinion, I am paying for their wages (indirectly, through footing for the bill of the meal). Being in the service line, you have to understand that all customers (regardless of their nationality, gender, age) are equal. You dont' have to suck up to foreigners, expecting them to tip you in return. Most sales people do not bother to talk to locals because they know we won't tip them.

Hello!!! The tips are given in the manner of the 10% service charge k?? SERVICE CHARGE!! I am paying for it! I expect good service! I was so tempted to write a feedback form but stan says that we shouldn't waste our time getting angry over them.
Back to my horrifying experience, after we were done, a waitress came by to collect our trays. She didn't even ask Stan if he was done and if she could collect the tray. She simply took it away! I was glaring at her. I guess she noticed it and she asked me if she could collect my tray before taking it away.

If you want to be in the service line, you gotta brush up on your service. Waiter B could have asked us if he could help us with anything before plunging in straight to tell us what to do and what not to do!!

Anyone in the right state of mind will tell you that Customer Feedback is very important to improving a business. SERVICE means TO SERVE. The quality of Pepper Lunch staff are very low, in my opinion. They need to understand the meaning of high quality service. Send them for training! But may be it's not worth it after all. Almost 70% of the staff look so young, they look like they are just there to while away their holidays without having any aim in life. Poor them.... Aww....

Before I forget, it seems that the Boss of Pepper Lunch went to the restaurant yesterday for a meal too. When the manager shouted that the boss is here, everyone immediately perked up and starting shouting Jap to welcome and thank the customers. What kind of attitude of this? You shouldn't be saying these only when your boss is around! In addition, they were just shouting at the top of their lungs, not making any sense at all! This greatly dampened the customers' mood for enjoying a proper meal. This has clearly shown how superficial the staff of Ngee Ann City's Pepper Lunch are. Their service does not come from within. On the other hand, I would like to praise someone for her excellent service. We were at Celine at Ngee Ann City. Stan and I decided to try to act tai tai and went in. This lady, I am sure she knew that we weren't some rich brats, came to us and said hello in a very friendly way. When Stan asked her how much is the bag, she just politely replied us. I did not even sense any hint of resentment from her! Normally the sales staff in these high end shops won't even bother to talk to us. But this lady just followed us around, smiling and telling us about the prices when we enquired. She is very nice!! I will definitely come back to Celine in future!I am not trying to be superficial or materialistic.
But it is clearly evident that Pepper Lunch's service differs vastly from Celine's. Why is that so? Personally, high end shops spare no effort in ensuring that their customers have a wonderful shopping experience with them. Thus, they only choose staff that are of a certain standard. I always believe in this, high quality comes with high value.
To prove my point, my parents came from Hong Kong on SIA flight. They sat in a three-seater with a Singaporean lady. As the flight was very full, they had to wait for a long time before they were served their dinner. An air stewardess forgot to serve them drinks (too many things going on at a time, i presume). So the lady was pissed off and complained to a senior steward. The steward immediately went to investigate and got the air stewardess to apologise to the lady and my parents. She bent down and apologise to my mom, my dad and the lady individually! The steward told my parents that the stewardess is new and she has to apologise for her mistakes. He also told her to reflect on her own actions.

See my point? SIA flights are definitely more exp than other airlines, but the service they offer are of a higher standard than the other airlines! This is the kind of quality service that the local service industry should have. Good service goes a long way. It builds up good brand image and reputation over time and in the long run, your company stands to gain!

if i have all the time and money in the world, i would:
  • get my long-awaited Balenciaga bag
  • get stan a watch, a camera, Levi's jeans, sneakers
  • get myself a Volkswagen Beetle/BMW 7series
  • shop at Paragon instead of Far East
  • treat my dearest friends to karaoke and korean food
  • donate some to the needy (e.g. school for the handicapped and disabled)
  • get my dad to retire so that he can go tour around the world with my mom
  • send my bro to med school
  • sign up for cooking lessons with stan
